President’s Message – October 2016

October’s President’s Message,

Thank you to all who attended our September DAORN meeting at Lowry Surgery Center.  A special thanks to Mary Jo Steiert for hosting and to our generous vendors from Stryker for hosting our dinner.  Judith Burke presented to us on Colorado Care- Amendment 69.  Very eye opening.  Be an educated voter when you go to the polls this November.

Speaking of voting, I hope you were able to participate in the AORN town hall meeting on October 3 where the member survey results regarding the AORN National election processes were shared.  Just as a responsible citizen should be informed about the issues that affect your personal lives, so it is your professional responsibility to be informed regarding issues that affect your professional organization.  I challenge you to be informed and vote to represent your voice.

At our October business meeting we will be voting on the proposed bylaw changes that were posted on the website last month and discussed at our September meeting.  I believe these changes are good for our organization and provide the necessary options to be flexible in how we manage ballots and voting for delegates and officers.  Speaking of officers; I know we have just started our year but it not too early to consider being a part of DAORN and consider running for an office.  Offices that will be up for election will be President-elect, Treasurer, Nominating and Board.  Please give consideration for these leadership opportunities.  Speaking of Delegates, if you are interested in being a delegate to our Global Surgical Conference please submit your point sheet for eligibility to Andine Gilmore either at the meeting this month or via email by the end of the month.  [email protected]

Lastly, our education for this month will be on FDA Unique Device Identification (UDI), presented by Denise Downing.  Contact hours will be available by accessing the AORN website and signing up for the recorded webinar.  Completion of the evaluation associated with the Title will allow you to print your certificate for CEU.

This month we will also share “Good Catches”

I look forward to seeing you October 13, 2016 at AORN Headquarters.
