DAORN CHAPTER MEETING MINUTES

Project CURE
April  8th 2010


 

The Chapter meeting was called to order by President Julie Martin at 6:15PM.

President Martin welcomed members and guests. Thank you to Project Cure and Carol Sibelius for providing the facility and our sponsors from Baxter for the meal.

Project Cure is open to volunteers Monday through Saturday from 9:00am to 5:00pm, groups can be arranged in the evening. Carol is looking into a summer schedule at Project Cure in June-August on the second Thursday of each month.

There is not a quorum present.

Thank you to all of the Congress volunteers, send any pictures you have to Julie. The missing Congress pin was found. The winners of the raffle were an RN from Ohio and Karen Knapp, a travel RN.

Minutes from the March Chapter meeting were deferred until the May meeting.

Correspondence: A thank you letter was received from Rose Seavey for her scholarship and from the AORN Foundation for our contribution.

Challenge letter from NLDC to nominate someone, by May 1, from our chapter for a national office. Rose SeaveyÕs name was suggested. She will be contacted to evaluate her interest.

The Orange County AORN Chapter presented a challenge to all other chapters to match their $500.00 donation. This was deferred until the May meeting.

TreasurerÕs Report: Current assets are $26,135.39 in the General Fund, $140.29 in the raffle fund, $7827.39 in the Bill Lord Scholarship Fund for a total of $34,103.07. There is also $675.00 in King Soopers Certificates.

Committee Reports:

Board Report: A dues increase of $25.00 was approved at Congress. You can renew your membership by July 1st and pay the old dues

Delegates at Congress approved the one member/one vote initiative with amendments. The limitation on the members of the House of Delegates was removed but the structure and chapter allocation of delegates will continue. The position statement on the Care of the Older Adult in Perioperative Settings passed. The Position statement on the RN First Assistant passed.

We are working on a marketing plan for the jackets. Julie will e-mail all the chapters and make them available for sale at $25.00 if they require mail delivery and $20.00 if they do not. Julie will also contact AORN Headquarters to see if they are interested in selling them on their site.

Awards: Chapter Awards are due by the end of April, no applications have been received. The awards are Clinical, Education and Management. The applications are available on line.

Bylaws: Please return all DAORN officers notebooks by next month.

Education: No report.

Fall Workshop: There will be a meeting soon.

Finance: No report.

Hospital Captains: Thank you for your contributions to the Colorado basket.

Informatics: No report.

Legislative: The bill to limit the practice of Nurse Practitioners in clinics died. The bill to register Surgical Technicians is not out of committee. CNA has a contract with the Rockies for specific games, watch for dates.

Congratulations to David Wyatt.

Membership: There are six guests this evening.

Nominating: No report.

OR Nurse Week: No report.

Publicity: No report.

Research: No report.

Scholarship: No report.

Tellers Committee: Tellers Committee met on Tuesday April 6, 2010. We received 109 ballots, 9 were ineligible. The results are:

Ways and Means: DAORN sold close to $14,000.00 at the Congress table, thank you to all that volunteered. All of the potato bags were sold.

Golf Tournament: The Golf tournament will be June 7, brochures will be available at the May meeting, save the date cards are available today. The cost is $150.00 per person. Any items you want to contribute to the silent auction can be brought to the May meeting.

Unfinished Business: The scanning project will be done by May. We are still missing minutes prior to 1990.

New Business:

Bill Lord Scholarships: Six applications were received, four were accepted. Dollar amounts have not been decided, the Board will await any further applications and make a final decision at the May meeting.

Criteria for the scholarship recipients need to be clarified.

Clipboards are circulating to sign up for Committees for 2010-2011. There is also a list to sign up for hosting a DAORN meeting next year.

Industry Representative, Jessica Reutlinger, announced that May will be her last meeting. She will be travelling for 7 months, then moving to New Jersey.

Donations for Growing Home, battered womenÕs shelter, can be given to Maggie Zeaphey.

Doug Jackson, CEO of Project Cure, spoke, thanking members for volunteering and their contributions.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:00PM.

King Soopers Certificates/Cards (KSC)

Thanks to everyone who bought $675 of KSC at our April 8, 2010, chapter meeting.  Five members were not able to buy the KSC they wanted because the chapter did not have sufficient funds to purchase the KSC.  Now we have an abundant supply of KSC so please bring $25 or more in cash or check to our May meeting to buy KSC to support our Delegates in 2011.

Attention: DAORN Members and Friends

Your help with a gift for the Silent Auction on June 7, 2010, will be greatly appreciated.

Examples of gifts needed are baskets of wine, chocolates, gourmet food, summer fun items, body and bath items, or you name it. We can also use gift cards or certificates for your favorite place to shop such as Best Buy, Target, Starbucks, or your favorite restaurants.

Please bring your items to our chapter meeting in May.
