DAORN CHAPTER MEETING MINUTES

Presbyterian/St. Lukes Medical Center
January 14, 2010


 

The Chapter meeting was called to order by President Julie Martin at 6:15PM.

President Martin welcomed members and guests. Thank you to University of Colorado Hospital

for providing the facility and our sponsors Michael, Rob, Dave and Mike for the meal and beverages.

There is a quorum present, there are 532 members present. Nine guests were welcomed.

Minutes from the November Chapter meeting were read and approved as written

Correspondence: No correspondence.

TreasurerÕs Report: Current assets are $18390.45 in the General Fund, $295.29 in the raffle fund, $7827.39 in the Bill Lord Scholarship Fund for a total of $26573.13. There is also $3020 in King Soopers Certificates. A representative from RMCHCSP is present tonight to collect the check for their half of the Fall Workshop proceeds. The check will be for $8433.

Committee Reports:

Board Report : No Board Report.

Awards: Chapter Awards are due by the end of April. The awards are Clinical, Education and Management.

Bylaws: The AORN Journal has all the National candidates and proposals. One significant proposal is the one member/one vote proposal. There will be Webinars on the AORN website on February 22 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm and March 4 from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. Everyone is welcome to join the discussion.

Informatics: The website has been updated. Submit anything that you would like to add to the website to Faith Beazer.

Education: No report.

Fall Workshop: This was the most successful Fall Workshop yet, there were 110 attendees. The check was presented to RMCHCSP for their portion of the proceeds.

Finance: No report.

Hospital Captains: No report.

Legislative: The GovernorÕs Committee formed to discuss registration of Surgical Technicians declined the move for registration. They determined that registering the technicians would not have changed the outcome at Rose Medical Center.

Membership: Member Peggy Howlin died, services have been held.

Nominating: Nominations were taken from the floor for 2010-2011 OfficerÕs Ballot. There are two Board positions, three Nominating Committee positions, Secretary and President Elect.

A TellerÕs Committee was formed, Chair person Geri Pesek, members Barb Wiens and Kay Taylor.

OR Nurse Week: Turn out last fall was very good. We will reserve the same space at the Museum for next year. There is enough space to set up an entire operating room suite, we will work with vendors to arrange that.

Publicity: No report.

Research: Committee priorities were distributed along with the process and format for peri-operative research programs. Request for members interested in research projects for next year. Next year we would like to develop a viable research project, grants are available for peri-operative research projects.

Scholarship: No new applications.

Ways and Means: The Bill Lord Golf Tournament kick-off party will be Friday February 26 at 6:00pm at The Ranch. Past and future volunteers are welcome.

Subcommittee Reports:

Jackets: Prototype was available, it is a Medline jacket. Color will be a dark royal blue. Cost will be

$30.00 for volunteers and $35.00 at Congress. Jackets are going to be delivered to HCA warehouse,

      but they will be brought to the March meeting. A list was circulated to identify members and jacket sizes to be purchased at the March meeting. Sizes available are medium, large, extra-large and 2x-large.

      Airport Welcome: There will be two shifts at the Airport, Friday March 12 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm and

      Saturday March 13 from 8:00am to 12:00pm. See Marilyn Payer to sign up.

Parade: Marchers will meet at Coors Field On March 13 at 9:00am. Wear green scrubs. The parade

Is approximately two miles. Sign-up sheet was circulated.

      Silent Auction: The Colorado basket for the silent auction is being filled. Any contributions can be brought to the March meeting.

       

Unfinished Business: No unfinished business.

New Business:

The AORN Nurselink is up and running. Network member talk is available, it has the same appearance

as face book. You are also able to join conversations on bylaws changes.

Congress Update: Registrations are up for the 2010 Congress in Denver. Headquarters indicates that we are on track for the number of volunteers already signed up.

Headquarters has determined that non-attendees to Congress cannot volunteer. This has to do with liability for non-attendees on the premises.

Buddy passes are also good on Sunday March 14. It was previously stated that they were only good from Monday through Thursday.

After the David Gergen talk on Tuesday at Congress, there will be a private reception for executives

The meeting was adjourned at 6:50PM.

King Soopers Certificates/Cards (KSC)

Thanks to everyone who bought $1125 of KSC at our February 11, 2010, chapter meeting.  

Please bring $25 or more in cash or check to our March meeting to buy KSC to support our delegates.  The gift cards can be used at King Soopers gasoline stations.

   Raffle

 

Our next two raffles will be on March 17 and March 18 at the 57th AORN Congress in the Colorado Convention Center.  Each day we will raffle one of our chapter pins that will have gold bars with a diamond in it.  These pins will be special keepsakes for the two winners.  Tickets will beavailable at the March chapter meeting.  Raffle tickets will be sold for $5 each.   

 After Congress, our next raffles will be at the Golf Tournament on June 7th.

Attention:  DAORN Members and Friends

 

Your help with a gift for the Silent Auction on June 7, 2010, will be greatly appreciated. 

 Examples of gifts needed are baskets of wine, chocolates, gourmet food, summer fun items, body and bath items, or you name it.  We can also use gift cards or certificates for your favorite place to shop such as Best Buy, Target, Starbucks, or your favorite restaurants.

 Please bring your items to our chapter meeting in May.
