DAORN CHAPTER MEETING MINUTES

Presbyterian/St. Lukes Medical Center
January 14, 2010


The chapter meeting was called to order by President Julie Martin at 6:15PM.
President Martin welcomed members and guests. Thank you to Presbyterian/St. Lukes Medical Center
for providing the facility and the meal.
There is a quorum present. Three new members were introduced.
Minutes from the November Chapter meeting were read and approved as written
Correspondence:
APIC (Infection Control) has contacted DAORN to investigate joint educational offerings. This information will be given to the Education Committee for follow-up.
Joan Blanchard at AORN Headquarters is compiling stories of the OR, The Heart of the OR. If you have a story or memorable experience that you would like to contribute, contact Carina Stanton at headquarters.
AORN Foundation has sent out the Chapter Challenge.

Treasurer’s Report: Current assets are $33,336.34 in the General Fund, $255.29 in the raffle fund, $7077.39 in the Bill Lord Scholarship Fund for a total of $40,669.02. There is also $5,525.00 in King Soopers Certificates. Final figures for the fall workshop were received. A check will be sent to RMCHCSP for their share of the fall conference.

Committee Reports:
Board Report The application for the fundraising paving brick (Pathway to Patient Safety) at headquarters is being completed. We can have three lines of text with 20 characters per line, 16 if they are upper case. President Martin submitted an inscription for consideration:

The inscription was approved by the chapter as is was presented.
Awards: Chapter Awards are due by April.
Bylaws: No report.
Informatics: No report.
Education: Next month’s educational offering will be Lynn Thomas on the use of Sterilants.
Fall Workshop: It was a successful Fall Conference, volunteers were recognized for their contributions.
Finance: Registration forms for Congress must be submitted tonight. Cost is $475.00 with the group and Colorado discount.
Hospital Captains: The Chairperson is the chair for the Silent Auction Fund Raiser at Congress. Volunteers are needed for donations and participation. A “Colorado Basket” was suggested as a donation. Give any ideas to Lesia Hatlestad.
Legislative: Hearing for rulings on the changes to the Nurse Practice Act will be on January 27, 2010.
Proposal for the licensing of Surgical Technicians will be presented to the General Assembly on February 25, 2010. Question was raised whether DAORN should make a position statement regarding this submission. It was agreed to defer to AORN Headquarters for the position statement.
Membership: No report.
Nominating: Work is starting on the Officer’s ballot. Three forms were distributed, and will be available on the DAORN website.
OR Nurse Week: No report.
Publicity: No report.
Research: No report.
Scholarship: There were nine grant requests for Congress received. After discussion, it was motioned and approved to pay the full registration for all nine applicants. This still leaves us under the budget of $6000.00. The recipients for Congress grants are:

Two addition requests were received and approved:
Virginia Rogge-$45.00 for the fall Conference
Rose Seavey-$100.00 for registration for the Texas Council of Peri-operative Nursing
Ways and Means: DAORN has received the table assignment at Congress. Please sign up for time at the sales table. Pins and scrub jackets will be for sale.
There are currently four applicants for the Bill Lord Scholarship. There is no deadline for application.
There will be a kick-off party at the Ranch in February for volunteers for the Golf tournament.

Unfinished Business:
The Chapter scanning project will go to the vendor soon, it will be under budget.
President Martin has requested that anyone that wants to volunteer at the 2010 Congress, send her an e-mail to confirm your interest (jawjamrn@q.com).

New Business:
There will be four new Congress subcommittees, they will meet after the business meeting and before the educational offering. Volunteers are needed for all the committees.
Scrub Jackets: Cost will be $30.00 for volunteers. They will be available for sale at Congress for $35.00. They will be teal or blue, and a storage locker is available at Congress. The final product will be brought to the March meeting.
Airport Welcome
St. Patrick’s Day Parade: The parade will be Saturday morning at 10:00AM, starting at Coors Field.
Silent Auction
Buddy passes are available for facilities. Each pass is four tickets (Monday through Thursday), that can be used in any combination of days. Cost is $700.00, and applications, with names, must be received by January 25, 2010.

VIP passes for Tuesday morning 8:00 to 10:00, in the exhibit hall are available. Contact Norma at Cardinal Health.

AORN Foundation has granted a scholarship to Chia-Huey Chen.

Brian and Deb from Headquarters demonstrated the new AORN website, Nurselink. Members who already log on to the old site will log on the same. It will have new capabilities. The website will be shut down on January 31, 2010 for the transition.

King Soopers Certificates/Cards (KSC)

Thanks to everyone who bought $1125 of KSC at our February 11, 2010, chapter meeting.  

Please bring $25 or more in cash or check to our March meeting to buy KSC to support our delegates.  The gift cards can be used at King Soopers gasoline stations.

   Raffle

 

Our next two raffles will be on March 17 and March 18 at the 57th AORN Congress in the Colorado Convention Center.  Each day we will raffle one of our chapter pins that will have gold bars with a diamond in it.  These pins will be special keepsakes for the two winners.  Tickets will beavailable at the March chapter meeting.  Raffle tickets will be sold for $5 each.   

 After Congress, our next raffles will be at the Golf Tournament on June 7th.

 Examples of gifts needed are baskets of wine, chocolates, gourmet food, summer fun items, body and bath items, or you name it.  We can also use gift cards or certificates for your favorite place to shop such as Best Buy, Target, Starbucks, or your favorite restaurants.
